Harrisburg Academy of Dance
Our teaching staff are all highly knowledgeable and well-versed in the various and specific techniques of dance. All of our teachers follow the same positive- reinforcement teaching philosophy, with emphasis on building a healthy self-esteem and sense of accomplishment in each student.
We offer Classes:
- Ballet. Beginners 6- to 8-years-old learn the very basics of ballet (proper names of steps, body positioning, technique) & the seven elements of dance (bending, gliding, darting, stretching, jumping, turning, rising) in a bright, fun-filled class. Consisting of ballet barre, adage, petite and grand allegros, as well as turning combinations to music. Beginner-youth classes are from 8-years-old, advanced classes include youth & adult students.  Female ballet students must wear pink tights and black leotards. Hair should be secured in a bun and off the face. Leather pink ballet slippers are required for performances. Sheer black chiffon skirts may be worn during center floor only. Male ballet students should wear black tights or black stretch pants with a solid color tee shirt, white socks and black shoes.
- Preschool. Designed for 4- to 6-year-olds as an intro to dance - using ballet, tap, floor stretches and dance moves in a fun, easy class that focuses on developing a healthy, happy, well-adjusted self-image.
- Tap. Beginners 6- to 8-years-old learn the very basics of tap (names of steps, proper tap sounds and movements, easy-to-learn combinations, rhythm and timing) to fun popular music in a energetic and exciting class. Features a tap warm-up, level-appropriate steps & techniques, and fun combinations to a variety of music (Pop, Swing, Club, Latin). Youth and adult classes available; beginner-youth begins at age 8. Female tap students may wear tights and leotards or leggings and tee shirts. Dance skirts may be worn in tap. Children should wear black patent leather bow tie shoes. Adults may wear either tap oxfords or 1½" or 2" heeled leather character shoes (which are typically used for performances). Male tap students may wear any exercise shorts or pants with a tee shirt. No street clothes should be worn. Wear lightweight cotton or nylon clothing.
- Jazz. Includes a warm-up, stretching exercises, jazz technique & combinations to popular music - basic Luigi jazz technique is taught with Broadway and Hip Hop moves incorporated. Students must be 9-years-old to safely begin jazz. Female jazz students may wear any color tights and leotards. Leggings and tee shirts are acceptable. Male jazz students may wear any exercise pants with a tee shirt. They should be lightweight and stretchy to allow freedom of movement. An athletic supporter should be worn.
We teach easy-to-understand lessons in a relaxed environment, using our unique positive reinforcement-based teaching style.
