Our school has had students go on to pursue careers in dance and even dance professionally, but more importantly, our students go on to pursue life’s challenges with confidence, poise and courage. Students benefit from our challenging and yet encouraging and supportive environment. We are proud of the many students who have come and developed through the benefits of our very special school.
We want everyone at the Diane Matthews School of Dance Arts to have a positive, growing experience in dance. Students progress more quickly and can enjoy the benefits of dance more fully by attending at least two classes per week which is our recommendation.
As we kick off this memorable year, we invite you to be a part of our dance community and celebrate in the joy of dancing and the activities of this exciting year.
Predance 3 1/2 TO 5 YEARS
We use our imaginations, creative games and songs to explore movement, develop motor skills and enjoy music. The class includes an introduction to Ballet, tumbling and creative movement.
Creative Jazz 6 TO 8 YEARS
New creative class in a less structured atmosphere giving students an opportunity for expression and imagery through movement. No previous dance experience necessary.
Tumbling 7 TO 12 YEARS
This is an energetic class which includes gymnastic mat work and fitness movement to improve flexibility, strength and balance.
Ballet
7 YEARS TO ADULT Classical ballet based on the Vagonova (Russian) technique. Correct form, placement, alignment and proper execution are all emphasized. Students dancing on pointe must attend at least two ballet classes per week. Pointe candidates must be at least at the Junior intermediate level. Please see your ballet teacher in reference to your pointe readiness.
Hip Hop (STREET DANCE) 7 YEARS TO ADULT
Learn the latest club and video dance steps to Hip-Hop music — broken down, expanded and combined. Music is upbeat and current.
