The Baum School of Art is a non-profit community art school located in center city Allentown. It has enriched the lives of thousands of adults and children throughout the Lehigh Valley. The Baum School is a member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts. The student body consists of people from all aspects of the community from preschool age to senior citizens. |

The Baum School of Art
In 1987, a new building with 15,000 square feet of space was constructed. The school now contains nine classrooms, a black and white photography darkroom, computer lab, metalsmithing studio, ceramics studio, gallery, reception area, administrative center, storage, restrooms and maintenance facilities. In 1998 the Charles C. Dent Sculpture Garden was dedicated. Classes and workshops are available during weekday mornings, afternoon and evenings for adults, and Saturdays or afterschool for children. These include computer graphics, sculpture, drawing, painting, jewelry and metalsmithing, photography, illustration, watercolor, patternmaking, ceramics, figure studies and more. The exemplary faculty is very dedicated and is considered the heart of the School's educational program. Our Classes for Adults: Baker Digital Media Classes, Computer Graphic, Crafts, Drawing, Drawing & Painting, Fashion, Film, Illustration, Painting, Photography, Sculpture. Gain a greater awareness and understanding of the importance of the elements and principles of design. The course will introduce students to drawing and painting and an in-depth exploration of the characteristics of color. Students learn basic illustration techniques, study create of the fashion croquis, explore various media used in fashion sketching including watercolors, colored pencils and markers to sketch their own fashion collection for their fashion portfolio. Cultivate your taste in media. Learn the basics of recording and editing techniques. Develop personal stories with a screenplay and utilize the talents of fellow classmates to serve as your crew to record video footage. And much more. Our Classes for Children & Teens: Computer, Crafts, Digital Media, Drawing & Painting, Fashion, Homeschool, Intro to Media, Painting, Photography, Pre-School, Sculpture. Enjoy the excitement of seeing an image appear before your eyes. Learn how a traditional film camera sees light. Learn how to shoot, develop and print in the Darkroom. Students should have access to an SLR 35 mm camera. Students will purchase film, paper and a few other small supplies. A fun way for students to create three-dimensional masterpieces. Students will work with media including modeling clay, modeling plastic, ceramic clay, carving foam, plaster, wax, soft wood and stone as they learn different techniques sculptors use to create. Learn to use the computer to create your own digital artwork. This program will introduce the creation of computer art by using state-of-the-art digital imaging software in a variety of applications. Animation will also be introduced. And much more.
