Music Together

Music Together classes are based on the recognition that all children are musical. At any level of your young child's musical development, everything your child needs to achieve basic music competence is laid out to experience, learn from and enjoy.
Sweet Sound Studio is passionate about music and your child's musical disposition. All classes are taught by Courtney Heath. She is an experienced preschool music teacher and is passionate about music and the development of children. Her aim is to create a fun, informal, social setting that spurs engagement and supports each child's musical development. Courtney has been singing and playing music all her life. Raised in a very musical family, she was actively involved in school, church and community choirs and orchestras. She studied music and received her B. A. in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University. She then went on to receive her Elementary Education Certification in the state of Texas.
Our Classes
- Mixed-Ages. This is the essential Music Together class, one that a child can attend from birth through age five - and through all nine song collections. Child development researchers recommend mixed-age groupings because they foster natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, and exploring musical instruments. The class provides a variety of adult-child activities that are fun and offer new ways to play musically at home. Parents, grandparents, or nanny, individually or together, may accompany the children. The whole family is welcome for this important family music experience.
- Demonstration Class. An opportunity for you understand the essence of a Music Together class and experience the Pure Fun you will have with your child every week. A demonstration class typically lasts 30-45 minutes and includes a mix of the songs and activities we might enjoy in a regular Music Together class. Don't worry about knowing the music - we always include some songs you're likely to know, as well as songs that might be new for most people. We do ask that parents minimize adult conversation during the demo class, to help preserve the musical "mood".
Don't worry about your child's participation! Your child may sit quietly on your lap and watch, join right in, or explore the space. Whatever your child does in the demo class will be just fine. Even if your child doesn't seem to be paying attention in class, you may notice your child re-enacting some of our class activities at home!
