In a formal sense, Aleithia (ALC) exists to equip homeschooling parents with educational materials and strategies for effective Christ-centered teaching; and to equip homeschooling students with critical thinking skills and a broad base of knowledge content for effective, Christ-centered living. In an informal sense, ALC is a community of Christian homeschooling families pursuing the common goal of Christ-centered education. |

Aleithia
In short, we exist to provide materials, experiences and an environment that equips and encourages homeschooling parents in the true foundation for education and homeschooling students in the true foundation for life: the wisdom of God. Our philosophy ALC’s ministry is built on four foundational principles. First, ALC’s governing philosophy can best be described as Christ-centered. This philosophy punctuates every aspect of our ministry. God’s intended meaning is emphasized in each area of knowledge... whether history, science, music or art... whether addressed to students or parents. Second, ALC emphasizes the primacy of the parent as educator and the home as the center of education. Our teachers and program supplement and complement the parents and home in their educational endeavor. Third, ALC recognizes that Christ has graced His church with gifted teachers. While maintaining the parent as the primary educator, we avail our community of homeschooling families with spiritually gifted teachers who have an expertise in their subject area and who model Christ-centered living. And fourth, ALC’s educational materials and program are organized around the classical trivium. At the grammar, dialectic and rhetoric stages, the corresponding tools of learning are taught and exercised through a variety of strategies and experiences. Our personnel Richard G. Patton is the founder and headmaster of Aleithia Learning Community (ALC). Rick holds a B.S. in education from West Chester University, an M.A. in Christian School Administration from Grace Theological Seminary and an M.A. in Biblical Studies from Biblical Theological Seminary. Prior to founding ALC in 1989, Rick worked as a teacher and administrator for 12 years in both public and private Christian schools. In 1998 and 2005, Rick was recognized with the Who's Who Among America's Teachers Award. Programs: Elementary ALC offers an elementary program (grades 2-5) that meets one day per week from 9:15 AM to 3:15 PM at Camp Sankanac in Chester County, PA. Different groups of families meet on Tuesday and Wednesday. In addition to music, art, drama and physical education, the students pursue project activities in history and science by way of group learning in a concrete/creative fashion designed to cultivate critical thinking skills. Aleithia Project Study Guides allow our program and your home program to work in tandem. Middle school ALC offers a middle school program (grades 6-8) that meets one day per week from 8:30 AM to 3:15 PM at Camp Sankanac in Chester County, PA. Different groups of families meet on Tuesday and Wednesday. Classes include Latin; an integrated approach to composition, speech, history and literature; lab science; music; art; drama; and physical education/sports. High school ALC offers a high school program (grades 9-12) that meets on Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Camp Sankanac in Chester County, PA. All 9th/10th graders must take rhetoric which focuses on writing, speaking and debate skills.
