Ambridge Area School District
Our Academic Program:
With over 200 dedicated, experienced, and highly qualified administrators and teachers, the Ambridge Area School District takes pride in meeting the needs of all learners from the advanced to the challenged through a rich, seamless curriculum emphasizing high academic standards and expectations. Advanced placement, GATE, enrichment, regular, technology, vocational, JROTC, and learning and emotional support classes are among district offerings. Additional specialized learning opportunities are available through the OJT (on-the-job training) program as well as the partnership with the Beaver County Area Vocational Technical School. The district is renowned for its Fine Arts program which encompasses a wide array of choral, drawing, and instrumental courses in virtually all grade levels. With seventy percent of its graduates continuing their studies on the college/university level, Ambridge Area alumni are represented among the military academies, our nation’s finest colleges and universities, the armed forces, and the professions.
Our Extracurricular and Athletic Program:
The Ambridge Area School District believes a program of extracurricular and athletic activities should complement the district’s academic program. As such, scores of extracurricular clubs and organizations ranging from academic games to yearbook, each under the sponsorship of a faculty moderator, fulfill the interests and budding talents of all students within the district. With interscholastic offerings in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling, as a well as a club offering in ice hockey, the district is a strong competitor in WPIAL (Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic League) and enjoys being home to the 2005 AAA state championship softball team, and numerous individual all-state champions in their respective sports. Having marched in the Tournament of Roses Parade in 2004, at Disney World on several occasions, and in numerous cities in North American and Europe, our nearly 300-strong band has earned a long and strong reputation for the quality of its performances. Similarly, our very unique and highly entertaining Steel Drums Band, having played across the country at various professional organizations’ conferences, is in constant demand for local civic, educational, and private performances.
Our Facilities:
The district is served by three elementary schools, a junior high school consisting of grades 7 and 8, and a senior high school. Two of the three elementary schools have been built within the last five years with the third having been renovated and expanded during the same time period. Currently, a new high school is being built with occupancy planned for January 2008. The junior high school has seen extensive capital renovations over the last several years. The district administration is housed in a separate facility as is the central receiving. Extensive capital improvements are planned for the stadium which has recently been fitted with artificial turf. The district is home to one of the largest athletic field houses in the area which regularly, along with the stadium, becomes the site of postseason interscholastic competition.
